DESCRIPTION: The Afro-Brazilian dance of love known as Lambada was very popular in Europe in 1989. Couples dance in extremely close proximity to one another and with ever so tight embraces accompanied by Afro-Brazilian-Caribbean rhythms. The lambada was considered to be a provocative dance of passion and in its own context remains so. People of Europe and the States used the dance in a faddish manner, losing sight of its "proper" meaning and derivation.
